monostroke

Single line drawing puzzle.

monostroke gameplay illustration A single warm off-white line traces a serpentine path through a 5 by 3 grid of small dots, with golden endpoints marking the start and finish.

About

A logic puzzle in a single stroke.

monostroke is a single line drawing puzzle: every level is a small grid, and the goal is to trace one unbroken stroke as long as you can. There is no tutorial wall to clear, no daily-streak nag, no menus to wade through. Open the app, drag from the dot, finish the puzzle.

The path you trace is graded on its length. A short but valid path earns one star; a near-maximal path earns three. Three stars takes a hamiltonian path — one stroke that touches every cell. Three stars on every level of a challenge world unlocks that world's signature theme.

Free to play

The full puzzle set is free. Optional in-app purchases unlock cosmetic themes and path skins.

Plays offline

Every puzzle is solvable without a network connection. Network is optional, only used for ads, analytics, and the store.

Minimalist by design

One ink color, one accent, no clutter. The interface gets out of the way so the puzzle stays in focus.

How to play

Drag, extend, complete.

Each level starts with one or two endpoints — small filled circles on the grid. Press an endpoint, then drag in any of the four cardinal directions. Your line extends one cell at a time. Drag back along the line to retract.

1. Start

Press a glowing endpoint. The cell lights up to confirm you're holding the head of the line.

2. Trace

Drag through neighbouring cells. Your line cannot cross itself, jump walls, or skip cells.

3. Complete

Cover every required cell, then tap MARK COMPLETE. The longer the path, the more stars you earn.

Mechanics

  • Walls — block movement between two adjacent cells.
  • Checkpoints — cells the line must visit before the puzzle counts as complete.
  • Ice — forces the line to slide in its direction of travel until it hits a wall or edge.
  • Veils — hide adjacency. A veiled cell is invisible to neighbours, so the line can fold around it.
  • Switches and gates — stepping a switch flips a paired gate open or closed.
  • Portals — paired cells that teleport the line from one to the other when entered.
  • Mirrors — reflect the line across a marked axis. Both halves of the path stay synchronised.

Modes

Five ways to play.

Pick your pace. Endless is the main run. Challenge worlds focus on a single mechanic for thirty levels. The Gauntlet is a five-floor pressure cooker for the players who want it.

Endless

Endless

A curated, ever-deepening progression. Mechanics are introduced one at a time: walls, checkpoint caps, ice, veils, switches, and portals. Past level 60 the live generator takes over and tunes difficulty around your performance.

Challenge · Blueprint

Blueprint

Closed-loop endpoints. Every level in this thirty-puzzle world starts and ends on the same cell — a perfect cycle. 3-star every level to unlock the Blueprint Cyanotype theme.

Challenge · Mirror

Mirror

Reflected grids. Every move is mirrored across the central axis, so both halves of your line are drawn at once. 3-star every level to unlock the Mirror Obsidian theme.

Challenge · Tally

Tally

Numbered checkpoints. Visit them in sequence: 1, 2, 3, then close the line. 3-star every level to unlock the Wood Maple theme.

Gauntlet

Gauntlet

Five floors, one shot. Each floor demands a 3-star path; a miss ends the run with the shards you've banked so far. Spend shards on premium cosmetics including the Aurora Iridescent theme.

Map

Map

Hand-drawn meta-puzzles where each region of the map is its own one-stroke level. Complete the map to unlock the corresponding path skin.

Themes

Twelve looks, one game.

Cosmetic themes restyle the entire app — palette, grid, path, endpoints, obstacles. They never change the rules.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is monostroke?

monostroke is a single line drawing puzzle game for iOS and Android. The player traces one stroke through a small grid; the longer the line, the more stars the level awards. Three stars on a level requires a path that covers every cell — a hamiltonian path.

How do you play?

Press an endpoint and drag in any of the four cardinal directions to extend the path one cell at a time. Drag back along your own line to retract. A submission counts when the line is long enough to satisfy the level's minimum and respects every rule in play (walls, mandatory checkpoints, switches, portals, mirrors). Longer lines earn more stars.

Is monostroke free?

Yes. monostroke is free to download and play on iOS and Android. Optional in-app purchases unlock cosmetic themes and path skins. Gameplay is not gated behind purchases.

Does monostroke work offline?

Yes. monostroke plays fully offline. Only optional features such as analytics, ads, and store purchases require a network connection.

What modes does monostroke include?

Endless mode (a curated progression with new mechanics introduced over time), three challenge worlds of 30 levels each — Blueprint, Mirror, and Tally — a five-floor Gauntlet for shard rewards, and per-map sub-grid puzzles.

What devices does monostroke support?

monostroke runs on iOS 13 and later, and on Android 7 (Nougat) and later. It supports phones and tablets in portrait orientation.

Does monostroke collect personal data?

No personal information is required to play. The app uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for anonymous performance and stability data, an advertising SDK on the free tier, and the platform's in-app-purchase system. Full details are in the privacy policy.

How are stars awarded?

Each level has a maximum path length and a minimum required length. The line you draw is graded against those bounds: a long path scores three stars, a medium path two, and a short but valid path one. Three stars on every level of a challenge world unlocks that world's mastery theme.

What are shards?

Shards are a separate currency earned only by clearing floors of the Gauntlet. They buy premium cosmetics — most notably the Aurora Iridescent theme — that cannot be bought with the regular coin currency.
